Bushcraft experience…

A first for Apple House care homes, was a day of bushcrafting with Sunrise Bushcraft of Hampshire. “D and J both participated in the bushcraft adventure. Following a nature trail, they identified different leaves and brought home a picture of the leaves that they had collected. Nuts were then collected for use on the fire.Both got involved in making dream catchers and now have them hanging in their rooms. Personal integration with nature and the earth – the bushcraft way.  We are delighted to announce that we have commissioned the services of Sunrise Bushcraft to provide adventure days for residents of our homes. Utilising the wonderful forest on our doorstep, individuals will be able to forage for herbs, build shelters, take part in fun activities and really get back to nature! Pets as therapy…

We advocate the profound benefits of pets visiting our homes.  We are delighted, therefore, to now receive regular visits from dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits and now owls too. Pet therapy, or more correctly, Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a type of therapy that involves animals as a form of treatment. The goal of AAT is to improve a person’s social, emotional, or cognitive functioning –Wiki. In Apple House care homes, AAT is used as part of an holistic approach to care and support.  Touch, social integration, sight, scent…the benefits of pet therapy are too numerous to list.  The smile on our residents’ faces …
